A baked desserts great with vanilla ice cream. Ingredients:
filling |
1/2 cup granulated sugar |
1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar |
2 tablespoon all- purpose flour |
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
5 cups peeled,thinly sliced cooking apples,such as golden delicious or johathan(about 1 2/3 pounds) |
2 cups cubed (1/2 inch)soft country white bread |
2 tablespoons (1/4 stick) butter,melted |
topping |
2 cups cubed (1/2 inch) soft country white bread |
3 tablespoons butter,melted |
vanilla ice cream (optional) |
cinnamon (optional) |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375*F.For the filling,combine the granulated and brown sugars,the flour,cinnamon and salt in a large bowl.Add the apples.Toss until evenly coated. 2. Add the bread cubes to the apple mixture.Drizzle with the melted butter.Mix well.Tranfer the mixture to an ungreased 8-inch square baking dish. 3. For the topping,place the bread cubes in a medium bowl.Drizzle with the melted butter.Mix well.Sprinkle evenly over filling. 4. Bake until the apples are tender and topping is golden,25-30 minutes.Serve warm with vanilla ice cream and sprinkle with cinnamon,if desired. |
