The ultimate comfort food! Apple pie and chocolate... what more can you ask for? Serve warm with a scoop of ice cream, for a sublime experience. Ingredients:
pastry for a double-crust 9-inch pie, unbaked |
6 medium apples |
12 tablespoons granulated sugar (the pie is not extremely sweet, so if you're used to very sweet things or your apples are tart, don') |
2/3 cup semisweet chocolate, pellets |
Directions:
1. Peel, core and quarter apples. Slice very thinly. 2. Place 1 layer of apple slices on the bottom crust. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons (or to taste) of sugar. Repeat twice. 3. Spread chocolate pellets over top. 4. With remaining apples, make 3 more apple/sugar layers. 5. Top with 2nd crust and seal edges. Make an incision on the top. 6. Bake in preheated oven at 450F for 15 minutes, or until golden. 7. Lower heat to 350F and continue baking for another 25-30 minutes, or until apples are tender. |
