The following recipe was transcribed ver batim from Peterson's Magazine Philadelphia, Pennsylvania February, 1859 Ingredients:
ormskirk gingerbread |
two pounds flour |
one pound butter |
one-half pound sifted oatmeal |
three-quarters of a pound of moist sugar, one ounce ginger |
the same of citrus and candied orange peel |
all mixed together; then add one pound of treacle*. |
Directions:
1. The whole should be mixed the day before it is intended to be baked. 2. - 3. In a regular gingerbread pan floured and larded this took 35 minutes in a 350 degree oven. It made 2 pans. 4. - 5. Special for Cabincrazy:*molasses 6. I had to look it up too! |
