Anise is a plant in the parsley family; its seeds have a sweet licorice flavor. Anise liqueur adds an intriguing flavor to this barbecue sauce, one that will have will have your guests asking for the secret ingredient. Ingredients:
2 cups tomato ketchup |
1 cup chili sauce |
1/2 cup anise liqueur (see note) |
1/2 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar |
1/2 cup lemon juice |
2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce |
Directions:
1. 1.Combine ketchup, chili sauce, anise liqueur, dark brown sugar, lemon juice and Worcestershire sauce in a saucepan. Heat thoroughly, stirring until well mixedl. 2. 2.Use for hot dogs, hamburgers, spareribs, seafood and chicken. 3. Makes about 4 1/2 cups. 4. Note: Pastis, ouzo, anesone and anisette are some examples of anise liqueurs; some common brand names include Galliano and Pernod. |
