Anise Almond Loaf (Bread Machine)

I much prefer to use my machine to do the mixing and kneading and then remove the dough to finish in the oven. This is a very tasty loaf and makes lovely toast.
Ingredients:
3/4 cup water (70 to 80 degrees f)
1 eggs or 1/4 cup egg beaters egg substitute
1/4 cup butter or 1/4 cup margarine, softened
1/4 cup sugar or 1/4 cup splenda sugar substitute
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 cups bread flour
1 teaspoon anise seed
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
1/2 cup chopped almonds
Directions:
1. In bread machine pan, place first eight ingredients in order suggested by manufacturer.
2. Select basic bread setting.
3. Choose light crust color and loaf size if available.
4. Bake according to bread machine directions (check dough after 5 minutes of mixing; add 1 to 2 tablespoons of water or flour if needed).
5. Just before the final kneading (your machine may audibly signal this), add almonds.
