This is the soda bread I grew up with that my mother always made. We had it year-round and not just for St. Patrick's Day. Ingredients:
3 cups flour |
3 teaspoons baking powder |
1/4 teaspoon baking soda |
3/4 cup sugar |
1/4 lb butter, softened |
1 cup raisins |
1 egg |
1 1/2 cups buttermilk |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease loaf pan and set aside. 2. Combine flour, baking powder, and baking soda; stir in sugar and butter to combine. Add raisins, stirring to combine. Add eggs and buttermilk. 3. Pour into prepared pan and bake for 1 hour. Let cool and serve. |
