Wonderful biscuits that taste like you bought them from the local bakery. Delicious and easy! Dough can be kept several days in the refrigerator. Ingredients:
1 package yeast |
2 tablespoons warm water |
5 cups plain all-purpose flour |
1 teaspoon soda |
3 teaspoons baking powder |
4 tablespoons white granulated sugar |
1 teaspoon salt |
1 cup shortening (crisco solid) |
2 cups buttermilk |
Directions:
1. Dissolve yeast in warm water. 2. Sift flour with dry ingredients. 3. Cut in shortening. 4. Add buttermilk and yeast mixture. 5. Stir, then knead a few minutes. 6. Roll out to 1/2 inch thickness. 7. Cut with biscuit cutter and brush with butter. 8. Bake at 400 degrees F. for 12 - 15 minutes. 9. Double the recipe! These freeze well after baking. |
