Here is were to get really good anchovies for Ceasar Salads. Below is how I make mine and were to get them at a great price. Ingredients:
roland flat anchovies |
1 romain heart |
parmesan cheese |
roasted sunflower seeds |
slivered almonds |
dried cranberrys |
ceasar dressing |
pepper |
crutons |
Directions:
1. I have tried Star and about 4 other brands of anchovies. I like the salt taste they give the salad but I don't want fishy! I chanced on a small store which had Roland Flat Anchovies in olive oil from turkey. Not fishy or dry like Star , just to me the perfect anchovie. 2. Go to , type in Roland Flat Anchovies and you will see they sell 25 cans for $38.00. It makes them about $1.50 a can, they raised the price by $8.00 in the last two weeks(9-11-07) ! 3. I take the romaine heart and holding the end use a 8 knife and start cutting about 3/4 strips into a bowl. add any or all extras, toss in a bowl, serve on a plate or eat from the bowl, whatever. 4. I take 3 cans, open and pour the olive oil from the into a small plastic container (like tupperware) then place the anchovies on the plate and cut them into 1/2 pieces. I cut the whole pile at one time, not one anchovie at a time. Then scrap them into the olive oil, and refrigerate, good for a week, but only lasts me about 4 days. Love the ceasar salad, the ruffage and the nuts are good for you. But buy the anchoives. They are so good, I can eat a whole plain. Incredibly not fishy!!!!!!! JJ |
