I've adapted the original recipe in hopes to bring down the fat content... and maybe the calories as well. You could substitute the sugar with Splenda if desired, although I haven't tried it that way. Ingredients:
1 cup amish starter |
3/4 cup applesauce |
1/2 cup white sugar |
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract |
3 egg whites |
1/2 cup milk |
1/2 cup water |
2 cups all-purpose flour |
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon baking soda |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon |
2 (5 ounce) packages vanilla instant pudding mix (you can change the flavor of the recipe by changing the flavor of pudding) |
1/2 cup white sugar |
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon |
Directions:
1. 1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. 2. 2. Mix bread ingredients in a non-metal bowl. DO NOT use any metal implements to mix the batter. 3. 3. Grease 2 large loaf pans and dust them with 1/2 the cinnamon/sugar mixture. 4. 4. Pour the batter evenly into the pans and sprinkle with the remaining sugar/cinnamon mixture. 5. 5. Bake for 1 hour. Cool until the bread loosens from the pan, about 10 minutes. |
