Almond Tea Cake

Another pot-luck recipe with almonds. O.K. so I like almonds.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
4 eggs, separated
3 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1/2 cup finely chopped almonds
2 tablespoons sugar
Directions:
1. Cream butter and 1/2 cup sugar.
2. Add egg yolks (well beaten), almond extract, and milk.
3. Sift together and add flour and baking powder.
4. Spread mixture in greased cake pan.
5. Beat egg whites until stiff and gradually add 1/2 cup sugar.
6. Fold in almonds.
7. Spread meringue over cake mixture and sprinkle with sugar.
8. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes.
