I have been making burgers this way for almost 30 years. They are flavorful delicious burger renditions, and I haven't found any that are as tasty. I sometimes double the recipe and freeze the pre-cooked burgers in individual plastic bags. Ingredients:
2 tablespoons butter |
2 vidalia onions (large 4-inch in diameter) |
3 lbs ground beef |
1 cup barbecue sauce |
4 ounces mustard (sweet & hot) |
3/4 cup breadcrumbs (italian) |
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt |
12 slices cheddar cheese |
12 hamburger buns |
Directions:
1. In skillet saute sliced onion in butter until translucent. (Set aside). 2. Mix ground beef, barbecue sauce, mustard, bread crumbs and garlic salt together until well blended. 3. I use a food scale to make twelve 5-ounce burgers. 4. After the burgers are formed, use your index finger to press a depression in the burger so it keeps its shape when grilling. 5. For medium rare burgers grill on high heat for 5-6 minutes on each side or (until internal temperature reaches 160 degrees F for well done.). 6. Turn grill off. 7. Top burgers with cheese and close grill lid so cheese melts and clings to burger for 1-2 minutes. 8. Warm up onions in skillet for 1-2 minutes or in microwave for 30 seconds. 9. Place cheeseburgers on buns and top with sauteed onions. 10. Enjoy! Yum! |
