1015’s are a Texas answer to all the other sweet onions out there. They are big and sweet. The only draw back is the season is to short! I love these things! And I don't know why they soak them in buttermilk as they are not strong. Read more ...! I just do! Ingredients:
3 large texas 1015 onions |
2 c. buttermilk |
1 c. all-purpose flour |
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder |
1 tsp. salt |
1/4 tsp. red pepper |
2/3 c. water |
1 beaten egg |
1 t. vegetable oil |
1 tsp. lemon juice |
vegetable oil for frying |
salt, if desired |
Directions:
1. Peel and slice onions into separate rings. 2. Pour buttermilk into a large shallow pan. 3. Add onion rings and soak 30 minutes. 4. Combine flour, baking powder, salt, red pepper, water, egg, 1 T. oil, and lemon juice; stir until smooth. 5. Heat oil to 375 degrees. 6. Remove onion rings from buttermilk and dip into batter. 7. Fry in hot oil until golden brown. 8. Drain on absorbent paper. 9. Sprinkle with salt, if desired 10. The cook time is for each batch or load... 11. DO NOT OVER FILL FRYER OR THEY WILL BE GREASY AND SOGGY. |
