A classic foolproof butter cake formula- so delicious and so many variations! I made this for my daughters birthday Easy to remember formula: 1 cup butter, 2 cups sugar, 3 cups flour, 4 eggs etc delicious butter/ pound type of cake - versatile to change the flavor & character of the cake Ingredients:
4 large eggs |
2 cups sugar |
1 cup butter ( 2 sticks ), softened - could be margarine |
1 cup milk ( could be orange juice ) |
3 cups all purpose flour |
1/2 tsp salt |
3 tsp. baking powder |
1 tbs. pure vanilla extract or any other flavor you wish |
optional additions:grated orange peel, or some poppyseeds, or some chopped nuts, chopped dried fruit |
Directions:
1. In a large mixing bowl cream softened butter and sugar until fluffy. 2. Add and beat in eggs one at a time until well blended. 3. Blend and beat in the sifted flour, baking powder and salt alternately with the milk into creamed mixture until well blended. 4. Blend in vanilla. 5. Pour batter into a well greased and floured tube or bundt pan. 6. Bake in a preheated 350F oven until tested done; 7. about 50 to 60 minutes. 8. Cool in pan 15 minutes and remove to rack to cool. 9. Variations: bake in a 9 x 13 pan or 2, 9 inch cake pans ( photo ), baking time will differ 10. Frost and fill cake as desired, this cake was frosted and filled with a basic buttercream |
